iBattMan – Securing next generation BMS

In the European research project iBattMan, leading universities, research centers, and companies combine their expertise to develop the next-generation battery management system (BMS). The innovative, modular, and scalable BMS is designed to improve the performance of batteries in various vehicles, from small cars to electric trucks. iBattMan relies on novel sensors, AI-supported state calculations, and dense networking with vehicle components to revolutionize battery safety, reliability, and connectivity. The project strengthens the European battery industry and supports the integration of renewable energies for concepts such as smart cities and net zero buildings.

The research group "Security in Mobility" headed by Prof. Dr. Ing. Hans-Joachim Hof focuses on developing a comprehensive cybersecurity architecture that aims to prepare security mechanisms for BMS in second life applications, provide decentralized identities for fine-grained access to battery data, and enable the detection of manipulated battery data.
