Visit to Stadtwerke Ingolstadt

You can't miss them! The two 25 metre high storage towers on Ringlerstrasse. With a capacity of 1,600 cubic metres each, they can store a total of 170 megawatt hours of energy in the form of 85 to 120° C hot water. In line with the "Energy storage" lecture, our 2nd semester students on the Bachelor of Energy Systems and Renewable Energies programme visited Stadtwerke Ingolstadt. The storage towers can be used to temporarily store previously unused industrial waste heat for heating living rooms, workshops and companies and make it available when needed. This saves large amounts of CO2 as the gas heating plants are used less!
Jonas Krüger and Stephan Fischer gave us a comprehensive insight into SWI's heating strategy, the importance of the district heating storage facility and gave us a tour of the gas-fired boiler. Thank you for this interesting visit!
