InES advises Zambian universities on renewable energies on behalf of the FAO

In mid-2024, the Institute for New Energy Systems (InES) at THI launched its mission as part of the "Facility for Action for Climate Empowerment to achieve Nationally Determined Contribution" (FACE-NDC) project. Among other things, the aim is to build practice-oriented capacity with a focus on teaching staff and laboratory infrastructure at the two Zambian partner universities, the University of Zambia and Copperbelt University.
InES is delighted to have been commissioned by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, short FAO, as part of the FACE-NDC project. The project, which is funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), aims to make a significant contribution to climate protection in Zambia through transformative awareness and behavioural education (for more information on the FACE-NDC project, visit fao.org or international-climate-initiative.com).
Starting in July 2024, the InES project team will design and prepare a capacity building programme and a study tour for Zambian academics. The aim is to integrate various topics in the field of renewable energy (RE) into existing Bachelor's and Master's programmes for agricultural and forestry value chains. In addition, the project team will analyse the current laboratory facilities at the University of Zambia and Copperbelt University and make recommendations for the procurement of new equipment and infrastructure. The assignment also includes a trip to Zambia to assess the laboratory and the teaching methods and content on site.
The project aims to strengthen the skills of teachers and make teaching in the field of EE more practical and relevant to the labour market. More information on the activities and outputs of the project can be found in the project profile.
