Interns receive a top-up of €150 per month.

Participants with fewer opportunities additionally receive 250 € per month.

The following are entitled to this additional funding:

• First time academics (Erstakademiker)
• Working students,
• Students with disabilities,
• Students with a chronic illness and
• Students with children. 

In order to apply for the Social Top-Up, an original declaration of honour must be submitted together with the Grant Agreement.

Who can receive a lump sum for travelling expenses?

Erasmus (KA131 incl. KA131 International)

• all ST mobilities,
• Students taking part in a short-term mobility programme
• Erasmus International (partner countries): all SM and ST mobilities

Students participating in an intra-European long-term mobility do NOT receive a travel allowance. This is due to the fact that the NA DAAD has decided to 'opt out' of funding travel expenses for long-term mobilities in the 2024 call. Further information on this decision can be found here.

Travelling allowance

In the 2024 call, additional travel days for green and non-green travel can be applied for.

All participants (long-term and short-term mobility in Erasmus+ and Erasmus+ International) are eligible, regardless of the duration of the mobility or whether they are categorised as participants with fewer opportunities. Funding is available for up to two days for non-green travel and up to six days for green travel in accordance with the guidelines for individual support*.

Applying for travel days
Funded travel days are mandatorily funded if participants demonstrate in the declaration on honour that there is a real need to fund these travel days, unless there is a specific reason not to do so.
The decision to grant additional travel days is made individually on the basis of the participant's needs. The need results from the individual presentation in the participants' declaration of honour.
 

*The maximum of 120 days will be funded. All days in excess of this will be counted as zero grant days. 

If the following requirements are met, participants have the opportunity to apply for a separate real cost application ("Realkostenantrag") for a grant of up to EUR 15,000 per semester / EUR 30,000 per academic year for additional costs incurred during their mobility abroad:

• Participants with a GdB of 20 or more
• a proven disability, due to which there is an additional financial need
• a chronic illness (physical or mental).
