As part of the advanced module “Digital Banking & Cryptocurrencies”, students of the Digital Business degree program at THI Business School went on an exciting excursion to terahash.space in Augsburg. Degree program director Prof. Dr. Christian Locher organized the visit and gave the participants exclusive insights into the world of Bitcoin mining.

Terahash.space, an innovative start-up founded by Kristian Kläger, gave an impressive demonstration of how sustainability and Bitcoin mining can be successfully combined. “It is really impressive what solutions the Bitcoin community is producing: a platform without owners that feeds itself exclusively from the power of its participants,” explained Prof. Dr. Locher enthusiastically.

In addition to the technical processes of Bitcoin mining, the associated business models and their disruptive potential were discussed. The integration of sustainability concepts into the mining processes was a particular focus of the discussions on site.

The students took the opportunity to expand their knowledge of digitalization in the banking sector and experience innovative concepts such as blockchain technology and Bitcoin mining at first hand. Rachel Geyer and Fabian Weber from terahash.space were on hand to answer the participants' questions and contribute to a deeper understanding.

“We will certainly be discussing these insights in the course for a long time to come,” said Prof. Dr. Locher. The excursion provided a successful link between theory and practice and inspired the participants to critically question the potential of digitalization.
