Prof. Dr. Michael Sternbeck involved in the winning concept of the German Logistics Award 2020

The company dm-drogerie markt has won the German Logistics Award 2020, the most important industry award in the world of logistics – awarded by the German Logistics Association (BVL). Michael Sternbeck, Professor of Supply Chain Management and Logistics at THI Business School, played a key role in designing the concept behind the award and its implementation as a member of the company's logistics management team. The jury of the award, chaired by the former German Federal Minister of Transport, Matthias Wissmann, praised the consistency with which the project "Integrative – Intelligent – Automated" was set up and implemented in the family business. This is characterized by an intelligent integration of the dm stores into the internal supply chain planning approaches as well as a highly automated individualization of the logistics services. At the core of the concept are "digital twins" of the dm-stores, via which specific store information is communicated to the robot picking system in the new dm distribution center in Wustermark, just outside Berlin.
