As part of the project seminar "Corporate Taxation & Accounting", students of the Bachelor of Business Administration program at THI Business School visited the company KPMG AG in Munich together with Prof. Dr. Alois Rauscher, lecturer for internal and external accounting. There they were welcomed by Oliver Trautwein, Senior Manager in the Accounting & Process Advisory division of KPMG.

On site, the students presented their project work, in which they dealt with selected accounting scandals from an accounting analysis perspective, the related aspects of corporate governance, and the regulatory consequences. They also addressed the challenges posed by the Financial Market Integrity Strengthening Act (FISG) for the balance sheet control process, the audit of financial statements and corporate governance. In addition, the challenges of accounting for reverse factoring agreements under IFRS and for the presentation of related party relationships under IAS 24 were discussed.

During this event, the students also had the opportunity to discuss their findings with Oliver Trautwein. In doing so, he provided them with interesting insights into current developments, e.g. with regard to regulatory changes in auditing. Mr. Trautwein also provided the students with valuable perspectives on professional practice and career opportunities at KPMG.

The students thus had the opportunity to get to know a major auditing and consulting firm and to discuss the results of their work with practitioners. This is in line with the THI Business School's approach of ensuring a close link between theory and practice.
