Airbus Design Week 2024: A Catalyst for Collaboration and Innovation!

Our researcher, Diah, had the privilege of representing us at Airbus Design Week 2024. Reflecting on the event, she shared how inspiring the experience was. This remarkable gathering celebrates the transformative power of design, user experience, and innovation, while uniting some of the brightest minds in the field. With a diverse range of workshops, talks, and presentations, the event showcased incredible creativity, collaboration, and ideas shaping the future of aviation.

Diah highlighted how meaningful it was to participate in such a momentous event within the design community:

“It’s truly wonderful to see a diverse team working with users at the center of everyone's focus. What’s even more fascinating is how different areas of expertise seamlessly come together to create a unified experience.”

One of her key takeaways was the realization that innovation often stems from embracing flaws as valuable lessons—failure is an integral part of the journey to success. Additionally, the session emphasized the importance of a human-centered approach in enhancing every detail, whether it’s a product, tool, or service. As noted in an insightful conversation with one of the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) experts:

“We should also consider the dreams and aspirations of pilots—what they envision as the ideal cockpit experience. Understanding their evolving needs can guide improvements for future generations of pilots.”
— Natalia, Cockpit Development Team

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the organizers for curating such a vibrant and engaging design community. Special gratitude goes to Dr. Shuo-Hsiu Hsu, Head of Design Governance at Airbus, for the leadership and vision.

This gathering has been an invaluable platform for meaningful collaboration. In this dynamic environment, we are inspired to continue connecting with fellow designers, researchers, and academics to share insights and collaboratively shape the future of the HCI/HMI field in aviation—particularly in advancing AI-driven Human Teaming Interaction.

We eagerly anticipate the next chapter of this exciting journey!
